SRU Parking
It is beginning to get cold and parking spots for off campus residents are getting more and more important. Everywhere I seem to go people are sitting in there cars waiting for a parking spot in a lot near the building of there class. I have even heard people skip class and just go home because a spot did not become available for them to park. Something needs to be done about this either more parking or easier access to a bus for off campus students. The bus they have now for off campus students never seems to be on time, and is always a risk to wait for it because you could then miss or just simply be late to class.

I completely agree with the parking situation. I myself am a commuter and often have a difficult time finding a parking spot. If I were to leave my house to get to campus on time, I would have to park in one of the farthest lots from campus and probably be late to class with my 15 minute walk. I believe that there definitely needs to be some sort of additional parking. I also feel that its out of the question that parking is so expensive just to be able to have a 15 minute walk to class.
ReplyDeleteI personally hate the idea of adding more parking spaces here at SRU. People sit in their cars and will spend five minutes driving in a circle just to find a spot close to their classroom. I see empty spots everyday by the ARC and baseball stadium and it's dumb to try to add more construction considering how dense the middle of campus already is. If there is actually not enough spots for one per commuter over the entire campus then yes add spaces, but its dumb to complain about having to be late to classes when you can park and walk. I do it everyday from on campus and I am fine.
ReplyDeleteBeing a commuter has benefits ,but trying to find a parking spot does not fit the list. I do not mind walking to class if I have to and in fact I sometimes enjoy it. However, whenever I am late or in a hurry it is impossible to find a parking spot close to the building I have class in. Maybe the parking situation is not the fault of the campus, but maybe the fault of 2 or 3 thousand commuters rushing in at the last minute hoping for spot on parking spot.
ReplyDeleteI do hate the fact that I have trouble getting a parking spot sometimes. Then again I dont want to see our campus completly paved over to add more spots either. I believe that a more efficiant bus system would be the way to go for the off campus students.
ReplyDeleteThere are more issues to this that I see. One major one is how when we have to wait for sometimes 15 to 20 minutes in our cars for a spot we are waisting alot of gas. This, in turn, is causing un-needed pollution in the air. Isn't SRU already in trouble for air pollution? You're also right about the bus. We can never count on it to be there on time so I never take it because I don't want to be late.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed the same thing you are talking about. Good parking spots are rare to come by. Also, I know many people who have left campus because they were not able to find a reasonable parking spot in time for class. I think more available parking spots for commuters would increase attendance rates in classrooms.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Jeff. It is ridiculous that people have to resort to getting tickets just to get a spot somewhat close to their dorm. I see students all the time park in the grass and the next day they will always get tickets. You would think that if SRU has all of this money and all of the time they put in to construction, they can't add more parking spots. Slippery Rock has so much land and not nearly enough parking. Something has to be done.
ReplyDeleteLiving off campus most students will drive to class if the weathers bad or if they are running late. Living near by at StoneCrest is a relatively easy walk in any weather. Instead of dealing with the headache of trying to find a space and sitting in traffic, i walk everyday. Sure some days are better than others with the weather but its a nice easy walk and i never have to deal with the issue.
ReplyDeletemany people who drive to class dont even have to. infact most of the time when they drive they end up having to walk further that if they would have walked from where they live. when the weather gets bad i understand but thats why they invented jackets and umbrellas. i personall walk everywhere because i want to but not everyone have the same thought as me.
